Our Initiatives
From climate resilience and policy support to capacity building and WASH services, we work across sectors to strengthen cities and empower communities. Our collaborative approach with governments and global partners ensures that every initiative is rooted in ground realities and backed by data.
With over 25 years of experience, we continue to drive innovation and build inclusive, sustainable cities.

Climate Change
We are committed to addressing the complex relationship between climate change and urban development. We support cities in building resilience and sustainability through climate action planning, healthcare system preparedness, energy conservation, and disaster management. We collaborate with governments and global partners to help cities adapt to climate risks and implement low-carbon, inclusive solutions for long-term growth.

Gov-Tech
We harness technology to make urban governance more transparent and inclusive. We develop innovative tools that transform data into actionable insights, helping governments address the needs of marginalised communities. We ensure decision-making is informed and equitable by providing real-time data solutions, strengthening urban systems, and improving service delivery at all levels.

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)
We recognise that access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene is fundamental to creating liveable cities. We address WASH challenges by improving infrastructure, strengthening institutions, and building local capacity. Our initiatives aim to ensure that every community has access to essential services, improving health outcomes and enhancing urban resilience.

Women's Empowerment and Livelihoods
We empower women by improving their access to finance, enhancing their skills through capacity-building initiatives, and supporting enterprise development. We provide hands-on guidance for entrepreneurship and livelihood generation. Additionally, we offer specialised technical training in sanitation and solid waste management to women organised through collectives.

Capacity Building
We believe continuous learning is essential for empowering city managers and enhancing governance. We assess training needs, develop targeted content, and deliver learning using adult-focused pedagogy. We combine practical support, study tours, internships, and city-to-city partnerships to ensure comprehensive capacity building that strengthens urban institutions and improves public service delivery.

Urban Planning
We collaborate with city governments to develop comprehensive urban plans that promote resilience and inclusivity. We specialise in urban governance, land use management, and GIS-based planning with a focus on climate adaptation. Through digital platforms and data-driven strategies, we empower Urban Local Bodies to adopt people-centric planning approaches that address local needs and future challenges.

Policy Support
We enhance urban life by supporting governments in developing inclusive policies and strengthening institutional capacity. We connect policy to ground realities, ensuring last-mile delivery through data-driven strategies. From technical audits to large-scale assessments and regulatory frameworks, we provide end-to-end guidance that shapes effective urban policies and infrastructure development.

Health Management
We actively engage with government, stakeholders, institutions as well as the community and use a variety of tools and methods to capture the views of service providers and seekers and identify issues in service delivery. UMC also carries out facility assessments to evaluate existing health facilities in terms of staffing, infrastructure and maintenance. UMC also helps in mapping the services on a GIS platform to identify priority areas.

Heritage Management
We firmly believe that old buildings and city plans in and around urban areas should be looked upon as assets rather than liabilities. UMC believes that potential conflicts between conservation and development can be avoided by increasing the functional integration of urban space through comprehensive planning and research.
